Job Responsibilities
As a home care worker with Prescare, you’ll provide in-home support to clients across Manitoba or New Brunswick. Key responsibilities may include, depending on your certifications:
With certification (PSW, UHCA, Companion):
- Assisting with personal care such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Supporting clients with mobility, transfers, and light exercise
- Preparing meals and assisting with feeding when necessary
- Performing light housekeeping tasks (laundry, dishes, tidying, etc.)
- Residential cleaning (full house cleaning upon client request)
- Providing companionship and emotional support
- Reminding clients to take medications
- Escorting or transporting clients to appointments and errands
- Monitoring client well-being and reporting concerns to supervisors
- Following care plans and maintaining client confidentiality and respect at all times
Without certification:
- Residential cleaning (full house cleaning upon client request)
- Light housekeeping (laundry, dishes, tidying, etc.)
- Companionship and social support
- Errands, light travel, or other non-clinical tasks

Setting You Up for Success
Essential Qualifications
Valid Driver’s License & Reliable Transportation –
Required for traveling to clients’ homes, running errands, and escorting clients to appointments or social outings.
CPR & First Aid Certification (preferred)
Ensures preparedness to respond to emergencies and maintain client safety.
Background Check
Applicants must pass a comprehensive background check to ensure a safe and trustworthy environment.
PSW, UHCA or Companion Certification
Required for personal care roles, not required for cleaning positions
Experience in Homecare or Caregiving (preferred but not required)
Provides hands-on knowledge of client care and daily assistance.
Strong Communication & Interpersonal Skills
Builds trust and fosters meaningful connections with clients and families.
Ability to Work Independently
Manages tasks effectively while following care plans with minimal supervision.

How long does the application process take?
The application process typically takes 2-4 weeks, depending on the volume of applications. We strive to keep you informed at each stage of the process.
Do I need to live in Manitoba or New Brunswick to apply?
Yes. Since our homecare services are currently offered across Manitoba and New Brunswick, applicants must either reside in the one of the provinces or be willing to travel to clients’ homes as needed. If you’re planning to move to Manitoba or New Brunswick, we welcome your application and can discuss timing during the hiring process.
Is a PSW certification required to work with Prescare Homecare?
No, a PSW certification is not required for every role. While having a Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification or equivalent is preferred and an asset for personal care positions, we also welcome applicants with caregiving experience, other related training, or those interested in residential cleaning and household support. Prescare provides additional guidance and training to ensure all team members meet our high standards of care.
Are travel expenses reimbursed for homecare visits?
Yes. Travel costs, including mileage for client visits, are reimbursed. While we make every effort to assign caregivers to clients in their local area, some travel may be required depending on client needs and caregiver availability.
